To train physicians in the skills necessary to assess a country's emergency health issues, design programs to meet those needs, and develop the expertise required to implement programs abroad as well as integrate them into existing health systems.

In order to achieve these goals, four basic arenas are emphasized during the fellowship training. They are the areas of: emergency medicine clinical experience, education, public health projects, and research.
