Excellence, Integrity, Compassion... As an instrument of God’s healing power, I consider it a sacred commission to provide the highest level of excellence, integrity, and compassion to the patients I serve. Excellence is the pursuit of perfection, combining experience with technical expertise. Integrity is adherence to moral and ethical principles, always making the patient first priority and treating them as if they were one of my own family members. Compassion is listening to parents and patients to tailor the latest scientific advances to their case.

Dr. Scott Nelson graduated with honors from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1996. He continued his training at Loma Linda University for his five years of orthopaedic surgery residency. After completing residency he practiced as an orthopaedic trauma surgeon at Riverside County Regional Medical Center. During this time he completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics at UCSD/San Diego Children’s Hospital. With inspiration from his grandfather who served as a surgeon in Africa for many years, Scott decided to answer a call to serve as the medical director of the Cure International Children’s Orthopaedic Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Scott, his wife Marni and their two boys lived in inner city Santo Domingo for more than five years while Scott developed a teaching program that brought cutting edge orthopaedic surgery techniques to those without resources. During this time he developed extensive experience in complex limb deformity and lengthening procedures as well as furthering his education with world renowned limb reconstruction surgeons (Drs. Paley and Herzenberg) at the International Center for Limb Lengthening in Baltimore, MD. He also developed a scoliosis treatment center at the Cure hospital which offers advanced surgical options for patients with spinal deformity. An unplanned diversion in his transition back to a full time faculty position at Loma Linda University found him in Port au Prince, Haiti after the January 12, 2010 earthquake. While working for 6 months at the Adventist Hospital of Haiti he developed a national referral center for orthopaedic surgery which continues to serve as a teaching program and provides services not offered at other medical institutions on the island. In September 2010 Dr. Nelson joined the Loma Linda University as a full time clinical faculty member and surgeon. His experience strengthens the university’s focus on whole person care and training physicians for international medical service. With his clinical expertise in limb deformity surgery, pediatric orthopaedics and spine surgery Loma Linda University continues to grow as a referral center for advanced orthopaedic procedures.
