Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Trauma Services

A child chases a ball into the street and runs straight into the path of an oncoming car.

A toddler slips out of his house, unseen, and tumbles into a backyard pool.

A teenager looks down to change the station on her car radio and swerves into a utility pole beside the road.

Traumatic injury can strike at any time. Last year, more than 4,700 children received trauma care at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. As the region’s only Level One trauma center, Children’s Hospital serves San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo, and Mono counties, home to 1.2 million children. While the leading causes of injury are motor vehicle accidents and falls, children need trauma care for a variety of reasons, such as near drowning, child abuse, and snake bites.

In addition to saving lives through the quick action of the trauma team, Children’s Hospital works to help prevent injuries from occurring by outreaching to the community through programs like Safe Kids, Youth Alternative Solutions, and Tattoo Removal.
